Would I read other works by the author? Yes, definitely, since I enjoyed aspects of this book and it really was clean, which is hard to find. Would I read it again? Maybe, since I liked the characters so much.

Makes me wonder what the real Lady Jersey would think about all these books about her befriending spunky young women. Ellen and Thomas reminded me of Jane and Mr Bingley, and Marianne's nieces, especially Diana, were nice to read about. However I would still recommend it, because the characters were enjoyable to read about. I would have liked Alexander's character to have grown a little more, he was a bit of an outline and not much else but his character had potential. I felt like we never really saw the relationship grow. Then however it becomes a little more light-hearted, and while it is easy to read and enjoyable enough the writing doesn't grab you much and it becomes mostly fluffy.īy the end I wasn't very invested in the relationship, although I liked them both, it kind of felt like certain objections on Marianne's part were thrown out the window without good enough reason. This first bit was written very maturely and gave a real sense of the lack of choice a woman had. Years later her husband dies, just as Alexander comes home from war as a marquis.

I liked the premise, Marianne and Alexander promise to wait for each other when they are young but Marianne is forced into a marriage of convenience with a horrible man. There is nothing at all described, not even a kiss, but rape is mentioned, as is the marriage bed, but like I said, not in any detail, literally just mentioning the words. So here is what I thought, I do not like the picture, I think it is a bad choice and wouldn't attract readers who would enjoy this book because it was remarkably clean.Ĭontent wise, there are 3 words in the book that I would consider swearing although others might not.

And secondly even in books that are exceptional there are usually one or two bad reviews but nothing but 4s and 5s made me extremely suspicious of this book. I read this book because I was curious about the contradictory vibes I was getting, to start with the picture doesn't scream clean romance to me yet it is marketed as such.
